Inspiration is a guest that does not willingly visit the lazy.

Pyotr Ilych Tchaikovsky

Inspiration is not a given. It is not something that will sneak up on you when you least expect it. It will never force itself upon you. You can’t beg for it. You have to earn it and so stop praying, paying and begging. Inspiration is a very willing. It can be a most gracious partner, but it will only come to dance with you when you are willing to try and be great.

You don’t have to be great to begin, but you have to begin to be great. You have to be willing to look foolish and uncoordinated. Willing to be sneered and laughed at. Willing to endure whatever life throws in your direction.

Learn to love it.

Learn to love adversity, stress, and failure, especially failure.

It is through failure that we succeed.

Think of Neil Young as an example. He has tirelessly recorded album after album and has performed song after song. He has released over forty albums and has played every place imaginable on the face of the earth, but he has only one number one hit. Heart of Gold is the only chart topper. Buy this account, he is an absolute and total failure, yet if he was to announce that he is coming to your home town, the place would be sold out in a matter of hours.

Not all failure is equal. Not all adversity and stress is meant to be avoided. Some of it has to be openly embraced. It has to be openly sought.

Inspiration is waiting to see what you will do next. Only in the process of doing will you be inspired what to do next. Only while you are moving will you be told to turn or jump, but you have to be moving.

Put an end to your lazy days.

Embrace the work that’s ahead.

Soon, inspiration will come knocking.

When you finally hear it, rip open the door.
