Life doesn’t stop because something happens to you.
Magic Johnson
It’s not about winning or losing or being well prepared. It’s about the will to keep going. Your ability to mend your wounds and hurts. The ability to choose what you can do about something you cannot change, despite how you feel.
Life is bigger than all of us. Bigger than our limited reality of it.
Life is an all encompassing miracle and it includes everything, including our ups and downs.
We cannot simply pick and choose what we like. We don’t get to decide what will happen next.
We’re just a tiny speck in a magnificent fabric of all existence, and we are on the inside. We are part of everything too.
Don’t judge life to be good when good things happen to you and similarly judge it as miserable when the opposite happens. Life remains the same. She chooses no favourites and holds no grudges.
You shouldn’t either.
So don’t ever give up. Don’t ever let up or quit when things aren’t going your way. This includes the times and circumstances that are horrific or tragic in nature.
Life is not easy, but don’t stop.
It wasn’t easy for Anne Frank to write her beautiful journal while hiding from the Nazi’s in a cramped dark attic. It wasn’t easy for Terry Fox to push through his tiredness and pain, when he set out on the Marathon of Hope. It wasn’t easy for Maximilian Kolbe, to give up his life while a prisoner in Auschwitz, so that another man could embrace his family.
It won’t be easy, but it’s worth while. It’s part of the human experience.
Don’t stop.
Don’t quit or give up when something unexpected or ugly forces itself into your life.
Take courage in the fact that you are not alone. You’re not the first, but you are united in your struggles.
Whatever life has managed to throw at you is uniquely yours, but take great solace in the human spirit. Take comfort in what you share, because you have the power to rise above all things.
You can fight and resist anything, overcome everything, and if you can’t, your life can still be a beacon of light for others.
It’s not about winning or losing.
It’s about the courage to rise again.
That is the magic of being human.
The triumph of the human spirit.
