The most useful piece of learning for the uses of life is to unlearn what is untrue.
Antisthenes
We are always scrambling our minds to learn new things, to embrace new sources of inspiration, and we are determined to become wiser. But while we are making forward motion, it is important that there are things we have to unlearn. Old habits and way of thinking that needs to be combated and cut out from our mind.
There are many ruts we find ourselves in. For some its addiction to food, and overeating when their emotions get out of hand. Others are perfectionists. They are never satisfied with anything they create. They are forever pushing that bolder up the mountain. They are never finished. They are never ready to share. They are forever hiding from the world and embracing who they are.
You have to learn to unlearn.
It’s not easy. You’ll have to first look at yourself in the mirror and see what is going on deep down inside of you. That is not an metaphor. You literally have to go in front of a mirror and look at yourself in the eyes. What do you see? What thoughts come baring down on you? Start there and seek moments and hours of silence. Let your thoughts come to you and over time you will learn and discover the things you need to unlearn.
Wisdom consists of seeking new things and burning everything that doesn’t serve us well.
Habits are hard to break, but you must break them. You have to find the triggers. You have to understand the causes, and you have to cation tape your life, like a crime scene, and unlearn what doesn’t serve you.
Unlearn what is not true.
Those are lies, accepted at various times in your past so that you could get through whatever it was that you needed getting through. Protecting yourself is admirable and done for a good reason, but as useful as the illusion we believed might have been those same ideas have become lies and shackle us to a life we don’t want. Those lies keep us from being who you desire to be.
Learn to go forward, but don’t forget to lean back.
Seek out the wisdom of new things.
Destroy and unlearn those things that are untrue.
