Some mornings you barely manage to put one foot in front of the other.
You no longer look ahead. You’re too tired to look back. You don’t feel anything. You stop thinking or making copious notes of what to do next. Your dreams are, for the moment, a fading and distant memory.
You just try to focus on some random point in the distance and just keep moving forward.
You force yourself to take some steps at whatever pace you can bear.
Life becomes overwhelming.
Nothing specific, really. No great tragedy to speak of. Nothing happened that needs attention. It just seems that you become out of tune, with the enchanting rhythm of life.
Your body gets tired.
Your mind is tired too.
All those wonderful ideas that sprung up in your mind in recent weeks, which brought you closer to your dreams, and in such great multitude too, become impossible to swat at.
We begin to miss your aim.
Develop a heavy swing.
Life becomes laboured and you become tired.
You get overwhelmed.
You might find yourself struggling with a sore throat. You develop a fever. Your back hurts again. Your earache returns. You begin to have wild dreams, and restless nights.
Don’t lose hope. Just take the time to nurse yourself and bring yourself back to equilibrium.
It is moments like this, that we begin to swing back. Our doubt returns. Our negative thoughts begin to move back and take their honoured place at the table.
Don’t give up.
Load up your body with vitamins and some healthy oxidants. Drink lots of water to help your body fight the good fight. Drink something warm, a tea perhaps, and down some medicine to soothe your aches and dull your pain.
Just don’t give up.
Don’t give up.
Don’t make such important decisions when you’re tired and not feeling so well.
Don’t freeze. Progress and momentum needs to be maintained, no matter what, because it is a lot easier to begin running again while you walk, than to force yourself to start all over again, when you lie down.
It is moments like this, precisely moments like that, that will push you further than you originally imagined.
If you take the time to look around, you will notice that this is the point in your life, where you traditionally run back, order a pizza, crack open a beer, empty a bottle of wine, and call everything you’ve been doing a bunch of bullshit.
Have some respect for yourself.
Respect your dreams.
If you do, you’ll be able to look them in the eyes in morning.
Put one foot in front of the other.
Get better.
Walk on.
