This weekend was Father’s Day and I don’t think I’ve ever had a more heart felt weekend before. I’m not even sure what it was. Nothing extraordinary happened. We didn’t really go anywhere. We didn’t really go and do anything spectacular but I wish I could live in this moment for a little while longer.
We were just together. Sometimes cranky, sometimes joyous and full of laughter. We were together in a real way and I think this is how life is supposed to be.
When I say supposed to be, what I mean is that we need to find these moments each and every day as much as they can reveal themselves. Waiting for a holiday or a special occasion is not enough. Our lives need to be filled with meaning each and every day.
What made this weekend so marvellous is that my wife and I bought some bikes. I have an old one bike but it is very heavy and not fun to ride and so I did what anyone else would do, I never rode it. But getting on a bike that is light and fits is an absolute joy.
We didn’t do anything special. All four of us got on our bikes and we we up and down the town. Down to the lake and back. One after another, like ducks crossing to the other side of the road. There was nothing particularly extraordinary about any of it but it felt so good and was so magical.
We need to find magic in our lives and sometimes it is very simple and not complicated at all. We need to connect to a meaningful life, not just on weekends or once in a while, but every day.
I hope you had a fabulous Father’s Day weekend too and I hope that this coming weekend will be one to remember also.
